Shining city rolling down a hill.....

This is the country that Ronald Reagan envisioned as a "shining city on a hill". This is the country that is suppose to hold all the promise. This is America.

Currently, all of the conditions are in place for a major economic downfall. One so huge and so terrible that it will be reminiciant of the great depression. We carry debt and don't care. We fun half trillion dollar deficiets and nobody looks twice. Forign markets have become more appealing than American ones. The dollar is taking a beating every day. Social security is set to go bankrupt and nobody even wants to talk about a way to fix it. Millions of people live each day below the poverty line. The average American family carries huge amounts of credit card debt. Our economy is destined to have a catastrophic failure. We have employed too many temporary fixes to gain political favor for a short time, that it is finnaly starting to catch up to us.

Furthermore, the bill of rights seems to be a thing of the past. Civil rights in this country are so blatently abused in the name of anti-terrorism that it makes me sick. Wheter it be the creation of "free speech zones", the suspension of habeous corpus, wire taping of americans, witch hunts for gays, or any other of the countless civil rights violations in this country, it is all the same.

And day by day Americans sit by and do nothing about it. They don't cry out for freedom when the bonds of tyranny knock on their door. They don't respond with outrage when their leaders continue to trample their liberties. They stand mute when the government tells them that their children may not have as bright a future as they have had. And most importantly, they don't vote when they need to more than ever. When the youth of this country take an interest in politics and current events at a young age they are ostrasized and critisized. They are made fun of, for actually caring what goes on day in and day out. Day by day, we care less and less.

This isn't the America envisioned by Reagan. This isn't the America that our fore fathers wished it to be. When will the American people take back there country? Will we be living in poverty without an ounce of freedom left before our people care? I sure hope not.
