This is America...

We as Americans are truly blessed. We live in the greatest country to have every graced the face of the earth. America is truly wonderful. There is not a day that goes by in my life where I do not thank the good Lord for having allowed me to live here.

However, we have come to a point in our history where you seriously question why people do what they do. Why they wont live up to the creed, "land of the free". I'm not trying to make the claim that this country has ever been perfect. Hell, as far as civil rights go, we have never been beter, however, some improvement does not mean that we can be call it quits.

We live in a country where gays and lesbians arnt treated as equals. They can't get the benefits of marriage, they can't serve openly and honostly in the military, and even raising children becomes far more difficult. We live in a country were a religious faction has seized far more power than there numbers should allow because the rest of the country is too lazy to vote at all, not to mention vote in unison. We live in a country that would take a right so precious as free speech for granted by pickiting military funerals claiming that a soilder died because of the country's posistion on gay rights. We live in a country that oppresses there youth every day by not giving them a shred of responsibility because they think they are not responsible enough to handel it. We live in a country that has a soft spot for the rights of criminals, yet will hang victims out to dry whenever they can. We live in a country that will only elect extremists from either side of the spectrum and leave nobody to project the voice of the middle, once again, because lazy people dont vote. We live in a country that will let the national debt continue to climb, and essentially be content passing a huge problem on to the future generations. We live in a country that will continue to throw money at problems, even when it is that very same money that is creating the problem to begin with. We live in a country that chooses regulation of personal freedom, above allowing for personal responsibility.

This isnt the best nation that it can be. We are not the shining city on a hill envisioned by Ronald Reagan. America can do better. People need to realize that our ideals are freedom, not oppression, success not failure, triumph not defeat. The problems we face today are big ones, but they are not unsolveable. This is America...when will Americans take back their country?
